Perry Mauzy
Owner and Instructor

Perry Mauzyʼs involvement with Pilates came through her career as a professional dancer. As early as junior high school, Ms. Mauzy was introduced to Pilates mat work while a student at the University of the North Carolina School of the Arts (attended from 1984-1989, high school graduate). Her other classical dance training includes the School of American Ballet and the School of the San Francisco Ballet.

From 1989 -2000, Ms. Mauzy danced professionally with the Charleston Ballet Theatre in SC where she continued her Pilates training on equipment. After certification through Physical Mind, she began instructing Pilates in 2001 in Winston-Salem, NC at BodyMind, Inc., while also attending Salem College (2000-2004, magna cum laude graduate, BA in Arts Management). Upon her return from studies abroad (St. Peterʼs College Oxford University and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, MSc History of Art), Ms. Mauzy taught dance and continued her Pilates teaching at the Mindful Movement studio also in Winston-Salem, NC.

After moving back to the South Carolina low country in 2009 and teaching for Waccamaw Pilates, Ms. Mauzy opened Pawleys Island Pilates in November of 2011.

Perry loves living at the beach with her two miniature dachshunds.

Paula Drummond
Instructor

Paula has been practicing Pilates for several years and teaching since 2009. After enjoying relief from chronic back pain following Pilates training, she decided to become a certified instructor. She is certified through Power Pilates of New York City to teach mat, reformer, Cadillac, barrel and the Wunda/High Chair. Since starting Pilates, she has seen clients strengthen their core, improve their posture and balance and have a more positive outlook about their overall wellness. Paula believes being able to work in such a positive caring environment with wonderful colleagues and clients has made all aspects of life better for her.

She enjoys working with clients of all ages but feels as we grow older, balance and flexibility is critical to avoid injuries and would like to see more seniors take advantage of opportunities like Pilates to help them stay strong. Paula has a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Western Kentucky University, Masters of Education and ABD in a Doctorate of Adult and Community College from North Carolina State University. She enjoys volunteering for animal rescue organizations such as Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas.
